Throwback American Kitchen and Bar

Knapp’s is an iconic local diner and bar that has been a cornerstone of the Proctor neighborhood since 1938. The restaurant lives in the historic Gamble Building, constructed by Ray Gamble in 1929. Over the years, the building has housed various businesses, including Sowers Jewelry, Nelson Drugs, Frederick Dean Drug Co., Ernest Brown Fuel Co., Stegin’s Women’s Furnishings, and, of course, Knapp’s.

The roots of Knapp’s trace back to when Ned and Corinne Knapp launched their delicatessen in what is now our main dining room. Over time, the restaurant expanded, adding the additional rooms you see today. In 1968, the construction of a lounge commenced, ultimately opening as the Knappsack Lounge in April 1969. Now, 86 years since its inception, all these efforts have come together to form Knapp’s Restaurant and Lounge, a significant part of both Proctor and Tacoma's history.

We take pride in serving our neighbors and friends with hearty and familiar comfort foods. Come join us for a trip down memory lane, embracing nostalgia, and don't miss out on visiting our lounge, hailed as the finest dive bar in the area.
